What are the
Special Ed. Division's plans for technology in the
classrooms?
Five Year Plan
Each classroom in the Special
Education Division is given technology to assist in
providing instruction to our students and to assist the
teacher manage paper work and communicate with others in
the organization. The above link are the goals for
implementing effective technology in our
Classrooms.These goals are reviewed each year by the
Special Education Quality Technology Team. This team is
made up of volunteers from among the teachers in the
Special Education Division. Technology specialists for
Division also sit on the committee. The "Tech Team"
welcomes new members and input. The committee works on
objectives each year that they feel will meet the goals.
These objectives are published to the classroom
annually. |

What is the
BOCES policy on acceptable use of computers and the
internet? (Acceptable Use Policy)
The Capital Region BOCES has a policy
for the acceptable use of computerized information
resources to ensure that these resources are used
properly and protect students and staff. It is the
responsibility of every employee to become familiar with
the policy and adhere to its guidance. To view the

How do I block
a site that I do not want my students to access?(Modify
Internet Filter Form)
If certain sites are being accessed
by your students that you do not want them to access and
you are on the NERIC network, you can request that these
sites be blocked. The attached forms can be filled out
and sent to your Director for approval. The Director
will forward the request to NERIC for approval and the
site will be blocked. If the request is denied, the
staff will be notified with the reason. |

How do I get
Assistive Technology help in my classroom?

Assistive Technology consultation is available to our
Division Classrooms and provides in classroom
consultation on software and hardware. Kim Mahar is the
Assistive Technology Specialist and her services may be
obtained by filling out the above request form.

How Do I
obtain software for my classroom? (Software Request
Form)
The Instructional Support Services
Office budgets monies each year to provide classroom
programs with software within budgetary constraints. CDS
teachers can also obtain software for adaptive device
use through their supervisor. All other teachers should
research appropriate software that would meet a
particular need and complete a software request form
(click on above link). Send the completed form and a
complete purchase requisition to Deven Horne in the
Instructional Support Services Office at 7 Wembley
Court. The coordinator will review the request and based
on availability of funding will order the software.
Resources for software companies are provided on this
site for staff to research appropriate software. Staff
can also ask the assistance of the Assistive Technology
Services Coordinator for suggestions for software. The
coordinator's email and contact is also provided on this
site. The TRE Center is also available at specific times
for previewing of hundreds of software packages.

How do I Get
My Computer Repaired? (Jiffy Lube Work Order Request
Form)
If you need your computer looked at
by a computer technician, you will need to call Deven
Horne and make an appointment for a Jiffy Lube. Jiffy
Lubes are done on Wednesdays and Thursdays by Peter
Cooper. Usually the problem can be resolved the same day
but sometimes the computer will need to be sent to the
repair center for parts. You will need to complete a
Jiffy Lube Form (click on link above to retrieve) and
attach to the computer box when you drop it off for its
appointment. |

How do I
obtain updated computer hardware for my classroom?
(Classroom Technology Needs Request
Form)
The Special Education Division has a
committee called the Special Ed. Tech Quality Team. This
team reviews and recommends goals, plans and purchasing
for technology throughout the school year. Each
November a needs request survey is sent out to each
classroom program. The teacher with her team discusses
the technology needs of the program and submits the
needs assessment (Click on above link for the form). The
needs assessments are reviewed by the team in December
and a recommended budget and purchasing is submitted to
the Director for the following school year. The Director
informs the team of the amount approved in the
spring. The Instructional Support Coordinator will notify
programs of the results of the needs assessment in the
spring of each year. |
